How long does a complete windshield replacement takes?

No, you can’t. You will have to wait for the urethane on the windshield to dry. It takes about 1-6 hours approximately.
What is the difference between tempered or laminated glass?
Windshield usually has laminated glass, however. door glass and back glass are made of tempered glass. Laminated glass are made with layers of Glass with lamination in between. And tempered glass is made in a special process of heating and cooling that makes it shatter into small pieces upon impact.

When the damage is less than 6 inches small or a small space is chipped, a repair can fix the problem.However, if there are more than one places that are damaged or the crack or chipping is lot more than 6 inches. Complete windshield needs to be replaced.
